Open every link in new tab with Firefox
Hi all,
This topic may have been covered extensively but I didn't find it with a search. I am trying to convert from Maxthon but one thing I have not figured out yet is how to click a link (using the left mouse button) and have it open to a new tab. In the settings it is set to open a new tab but it does not. Other times I may open a link, like in gmail, and it opens a whole new window... what is the secret here? I don't have a middle mouse button and don't want to right click to open a new tab. This was easy in Maxthon. Am I missing something here?
Firefox version 3.0.5
Re: Open every link in new tab with Firefox
Just press a middle scroll key on links with firefox to open them in new tab.

Tab Control is a very light weight plugin which put the new tab next to the current tab and also has other features like switching to the left tab when you close the current tab, specify the maximum and minimum width of the tab etc.
Re: Open every link in new tab with Firefox
Open about:config (write it in address bar)and set the following prefs:
- browser.link.open_external set to 3 (should already be)
- browser.link.open_newwindow to 3
- browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 0 (zero)
All preferences that begin with browser.tabs.opentabfor which should be set to true (if you've upgraded from Firefox 2.x or 1.x, there should be several instances).
To avoid your window resizing you need to restrict javascript from resizing windows. Go to:
Tools > Options > Content > Enable JavaScript > Advanced button > Allow scripts to: > [ ] Move or resize existing windows
Make sure that item is UNchecked. (Click the box to clear the checkmark, if present.)
To make all regular links open in a tab, you'll basically need an addon. (As Mention In above replies by Abedin and Neel23)
