I bought Serial ATA-300, 8 MB, 13 ms (max), 2.5" x 1/8H, Hard Drive.I can not install Windows XP sucessfully on it. This problem is when the installation of Windows XP halts when the message comes file hal.dll was not copied, and so on. when i try to reinstall it again gives the same error.
Re: Installation Problem in Windows-xp
hi,
i think this situation occurs when setting up a dual boot situation with Windows 2000 and Windows XP (it may occur with other setups). After Windows XP's install routine has finished copying files, and is ready to boot to the GUI portion of SETUP, you may receive the above error.
Re: Installation Problem in Windows-xp
Try this to slove the problem when hal.dll is missing :
Boot from your CD and follow the directions to start Recovery Console. Then:
Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini
DEL C:\Boot.ini
BootCfg /Rebuild
Fixboot
Re: Installation Problem in Windows-xp
This error is caused by a number of variables. However, the most common is an incompatibly old motherboard BIOS or SATA disk drivers that aren’t loaded. You can find the documented issue here:

Re: Installation Problem in Windows-xp
The solution is quite simple: remove first the ddo (for example with Seagate's DiscWizard: http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/...s/discwiz.html) and re-install windows xp.
