Re: increase data speed for windows 98 ???
hi
you relay stuck true..
well the some one can help you is ULTRA DMA IDE drives .
it is easier to manage ultra DMA IDE drives than other equals under windows 9x. For those who are used to this system, they might have notice that there are no device manager tree which is however found in almost all operating system and enable activation of DMA which boost speed of records.
Below is a simple tips for activation of DMA.
1. Verifying the service pack NT
The UDMA is supported since SP2 or SP3. But however, as per Microsoft, the well functioning of the UDMA is since SP4. It is recommended that you install SP6a to avoid any trouble. If you are not up to date on this side, you will certainly receive a message error when launching the utility.
Downloading the Utility of Microsoft to configure the registry
You can however configure the registry to activate UDMA. Moreover this setting is very suspicious and is not recommended as it is not compatible with NT4. You will surely have to make a reinstallation. Microsoft has implemented an efficient utility that comes with the CD from NT4 with SP4 or higher. If you have an older CD version, this utility can be downloaded on below address :
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...s/dmachcki.exe
This ultility is a multi language.
Installation of utility
Double-click on the utility.
A back windows will appears and disappears once. This is due to the unpack and copy of your program to the hard drive root for installation.
Go to the root of your hard drive (almost in Hard disk C : ).
Select the key dmacheck.exe and double click on it to run the device.
Activate the UDMA by the IDE channels (Channel 0 is the primary IDE controller and Channel 1 is the secondary controller.(Note: It is recommended that you consult IDE tutorial before any modification if you don’t understand.)
Once done, click on OK and restart your computer. Your modification will take place if all your disk drives are compatible. DMA, being already an older technology must apparently be compatible with your drivers.
