I have a Asus M6 SERIES laptop and has 2 256 MB of RAM. (FSB 333)
I wonder if I can put a strip of 1GB ram of different brand (or even if I look at the mark) and remove one of the other two. Can I do that or would I be forced to buy another strip for the same?
You can add your 1GB strip whatever may be the mark but you will have to remove a strip of 256 because there are only 2 slots on your motherboard, i suppose.
I know that there are only two slots. But I just wanted to be able to put two strips of different sizes and different brands.
I have seen some configs of laptop with 3GB of memory and so I assume that the difference in size is not a problem even if the manufacturer is different.
So if I make it a 1GB + 256MB of memory, will there be any malfunctioning issue?
If I buy against by the PC3200 ram or more because it is less expensive. Will it work? I doubt.
No worries regarding memories of different brand and different sizes. But I think 3200 will be compatible with 4200.
Be sure to check the frequency of the RAM before changing if you want to use 2 RAM then the above check is must or else it will cause problem. This is a general rule to follow.
