Notebooks sales over desktop in the third quarter 2008
"New estimates of the market confirm the gradual overtaking sales of mobile devices than traditional desktop"
Sales of notebook systems have exceeded those of desktop solutions aggregate during the third quarter of 2008, according to estimates published by the research iSuppli. This result was achieved thanks to an increase of about 40% in the number of solutions notebooks sold over 12 months earlier, against a contraction of 1, 3% in the number of desktop systems.
Estimates indicate an aggregate value for the third quarter of 2008, amounting to 38.5 million desktop computers and 38.6 million notebook systems, as it includes both the traditional PC portable systems Netbook, from just over 1 years available on the market.
Among the manufacturers of notebook systems remind the brilliant results achieved by Acer, which has been able to increase by as much as 79% the number of notebook systems sold compared to what obtained in the same period last year. In relation to the second quarter, growth was equal to 45%, an increase in the number of notebooks sold at about 3 million pieces.
The reasons for this market are mainly two: first, the general thrust of the adoption notebook systems not only in domestic but also in business, thanks to a general level of prices of these devices than desktop systems equal characteristics.
Secondly, the phenomenon of Netbook, systems that should accrue in 2008 sales over 14 million pieces, has prompted many producers to achieve market very bright, with a risk, however, to replace sales of notebooks with much less profitable Netbook systems, low cost, by their nature, and therefore characterized by lower margins.

The desktop, whether we like it or not, are destined to extinction. Remain only those few fanatics of games and little else that they can not do without it. With good peace of all.

There is also to say that a good part of its desktop users if they assemble themselves, or assemble them from the retailer.
In my opinion not the desktop will become extinct, or at least not in the near future, but that happens many years ago.

It depends on the work you do ... I have all the technical and commercial company with my laptop. It would be absolutely impossible and foolish to provide them with the desktop, because they have to move continue by a client to another with all the information they need .. Even if one does not move much, I have long discarded the desktop for a more compact / less noisy / less stingy current notebook even at home. Certainly not because ergonomics, connecting it to a fine display with keyboard and mouse. But the practise have all of them, compact, without having to upgraded Chipset / RAM / video card and so on. (it was a Hacker too) I was intrigued. Already with that cost and speed of computing, to change the whole pc every 2-3 years .... Certainly if one wants the benefits "extreme" is not the desktop, but is and always will be plus a range of niche. Already with a notebook for less than 1,000 euros EVERYTHING you turn, not the maximum, but not at all interested in playing 1920x1600 at 500 watts!
