So I'm thinking about buying a 1Tb HDD (SATA2) to use on a 2005 ASRock P4VM8. I know there is no problem connecting SATA2 on SATA1 but the size of the disk matters? Will I have any problems using such a big disk? Thanks.

What operating system you are using? See this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303013
Hi i was also having same type query.
I connected HITACHI 500GB SATA hard disk into my P4VM8 motherboard. It was not detected by the BIOS program. I updated my BIOS program to ver1.30. Also installed new SATA drivers to 'SATA driver ver:3.00b' & 'VIA SATA Driver For Floppy Disk ver:3.00b'. But it didn't fix the problem. My hard disk is working. I checked it on another type of motherboard. Then it is working.
So i don't think so it will support your mobo also.
