Problem installing Windows XP on Compaq notebook
I wanted to install Windows XP on my Compaq Notebook. But when I start to install, I get the screen with the message "Can't find any hard drive in the computer". I adjusted AHCI to SATA in the bios but the problem still persists. Is there anyone who can help me to solve this problem?
Re: Problem installing Windows XP on Compaq notebook
Just install SCSI driver in order to install Windows XP on your laptop. You can either go to Compaq's site or over here http://www.nodevice.com/driver/category/SCSI.html and download SCSI driver on a floppy drive. Now insert your Windows XP CD inside CD drive and start installation. The SCSI drivers from the floppy disk will automatically be loaded in between the installation of Windows XP.
Re: Problem installing Windows XP on Compaq notebook
This happens because may be you are having Windows XP SP2 which is not compatible with SATA hard drives, so either you install SP3 or manually install the compatible drivers. However, I would prefer to install SP3.
Also, might be your current system is not capable of using above certain limit of HDD space.

OK, then I will install Windows Vista (I was thinking to switch to it) and see what happens.

In such case you will find the driver on your motherboard's manufactures website for Vista, and also download SATA controller ver 7.0 driver which you will find at the SATA controller card manufacturers website. Hope this will solve your problem.
