PCI.SYS 0x0000007E error while installing Windows XP
I am installing Windows XP Pro but just during the start of the installation, it gives me the blue screen and then a screen will come up saying:
Quote:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you have seen this stop message screen restart your computer.
Technical info
Stop: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xf85480bf, 0xf8994208, 0xf8993f08)
PCI.SYS - Address f85480bf base at f8541000, Datestamp 3b7d855c
I have tried disabling everything possible in BIOS (I believe...) and have flashed the most current BIOS version as well. Everything in the system has been triple checked for proper placement. At first I thought this might be a graphics card problem, but it seems to be working perfectly. So my question is what could be wrong?

Have you checked your hard disk and/or RAM ? I suppose this may be because of some kind of hardware problem.
Re: PCI.SYS 0x0000007E error while installing Windows XP
I was also having the same problem while installing Windows XP SP3. So I borrowed a new windows XP CD from my friend, which included the service pack 2 and formatted my hard drive again.
1.) The HDD was recognized with all it's storage space
2.) I was able to install the drivers -> This allowed me to access the internet which further obviously solved all the other problems.
The bluescreen came in my opinion from a corrupted file on the CD (I have no other explanation to it). If you don't have access to a rescue windows XP CD, I have no idea how you could solve it otherwise.
