no sound when playing dvd in windows media player 11, audio cd ok
Using Windows Media Player on Windows XP Sp2. Whenever I play any Audio CD with WMP it works fine and I get the proper sound according to the volume. But when I play any DVD on this same system I won’t get any sound. Only the problem is with DVDs.
Any idea what could be the problem and how to fix it? Many thank.

Many people face such problems while trying to play DVDs in WMP and the reason is only one, WMP wont support DVDs by default. You need to install external codec for the same. Some of them are free while some are paid.

Hey Katherina, I appreciate your help. But let me tell you that I have the codec installed on my system and was able to play DVDs until last week. Don’t know what went wrong suddenly it started giving this problem since a week now.
Any more help?

Alright crescent. Just open WMP's Help:about:Technical Support Information menu tool and see what filters for MPEG are listed here.
Also if you have any restore point created before the problem started, just perform the system restore. Hopefully the problem will be solved.
