HP Laserjet 1012 and Vista 64 bit (driver work-around worked for me)

I was having some problem with my HP Laserjet 1012 printer that was not working properly with my Dell Studio machine on Windows Vista operating system. First of all I went to the HP website and downloaded only the custom Laserjet 1015 Windows XP driver and then I just choose the USB Local port and then the driver successfully installed. But the printer was not still working, so what i did was just right clicked on the default printer in control panel and went to its properties and changed the port to DOT4_00x Generic IEEE 1284. After that I connected the printer via the USB port and it was now able to print properly. I hope that this helps somebody.

I think that HP has already released a driver on their website that works with Vista. All you need to do is, just login in your computer as a administrator and then install the drivers, because with the admin account you have got the full rights to install/uninstall any software. You can download the HP LaserJet 1012 Printer for Windows Vista from this link. I installed the same version of this driver on my laptop and it is working fine in my Vista 64bit machine.

Even I was not able to print from the HP LaserJet 1015 printer in my Vista operating system. But after a bit of research I was able to finally solve this problem. There is also no need to download any driver or anything from any website to get this printer working in Vista, just check the below suggestions:

• First of all you have to use add a printer to select "Add a local printer" in control panel.
• After that use the same port and select DOT4_001 which is nothing but the generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support.
• After that select your printer that is HP LaserJet 1015.
• Lastly you have to click next and then finish the setup and the printer will start working.
