SATA hard drive slow
I recently buy a SATA hard disk that I add to my PC for data storage. All is in place, perfect recognition, formatting / letter OK ....... in short everything is OK for installation.
My only concern is that it is terribly slow compared to my first hard disk or install Vista. When I want to copy a file size of around 1GB on the second partition of HD1, it's fast. But when I want to copy the same folder on the hard disk added, is that its corners. he 30min to copy!!
Information on hard drives:
HD1: Seagate 320GB in SATA 8MB / s, 2 partitions: 1 for vista + software and the other for data (music, docs ,....)
HD2: Maxtor 500GB sata in 32mb / s, one partition for my music, docs ,.....
Where does the problem and what can I do?
Thank you in advance!

Re: SATA hard drive slow
If your HD is very slow, go into Device Manager, if in IDE ATA / ATAPI controllers you have duplicate "Primary IDE channel" and "secondary IDE channel" there is a problem. In fact Windows manages the SATA HD as it can in PIO mode (very slow because many using the processor).
You should download the drivers on VIA hyperion viaarena and especially to check the installation of RAID drivers. This will add a SCSI RAID controller in your Device Manager and remove duplicate IDE ATA / ATAPI controllers.
Personally I have a SATA disk I did not see the interest to install a RAID driver but apparently we need ... like what times it is better to install everything without asking too many questions to avoid ' have problems.

Re: SATA hard drive slow
I was copying a couple of gigs from SATA to SATA with very slow results. I didn't realize I still had an IDE drive in my system. After reading this thread I disconnected the IDE and the transfers are now a flying !
good thread

Re: SATA hard drive slow
Hi Aikonik,
I added a new hard drive to my computer this week and re-installed OS etc to place 'my' data on 2nd drive.
I started to copy files and it was driving me nuts with 'stalling' and also freezing up other applications.
Thanks to your information here about the IDE controllers my PC is now flying again !
