Xbox 360 will not play .avi or .mov videos
Attached a FAT32-formatted HD dierectly to the Xbox360 USB input and tried running .avi and .mov videos from Canon and Kodak cameras off the HD. Always get incorrect codec error when trying to play them, although thought I'd read the XBox 360 natively likes .avi and .mov codecs. These videos all run beautifully on a Vista box either using WMP or WMC.
Re: Xbox 360 will not play .avi or .mov videos
I had about 1GB of videos in AVI format which I converted in .wmv and it took me just 7 to 8 minute for the conversation process. I tried playing the same in Xbox 360s media Center but it wont play. I don’t understand why my WMP11 happily plays .avi's all day long but I can't with Xbox 360 in WMCE configuration.
Re: Xbox 360 will not play .avi or .mov videos
Wasn't it your impression, though, that the Xbox 360 could play .avi/.mov files from a HD or USB key directly attached to it? Not trying to stream video using WMP or WMC on the computer, just trying to play files from HD or key directly attached to the Xbox USB port. Sees the files fine, but says can't play them.
Re: Xbox 360 will not play .avi or .mov videos
I understand there are problems streaming from a computer to the Xbox360using WMP or WMC.
Curious whether anybody has had any luck running the .avi or .mov video files from a USB key or HD plugged in directly to the Xbox. Suuposedly the Dec.07 update allowed those codecs, but no luck for me. They're clearly visible in the Dashboard video folder, but won't play back.
Re: Xbox 360 will not play .avi or .mov videos
What app did you use to convert all the avi files? Does it lose the Dolby 5.1 when you convert them?

Re: Xbox 360 will not play .avi or .mov videos
You can download quick media converter and convert your videos to an xbox 360 readable file and then play them off of your flash drive........ I do it all the time.
