Electronic Arts: sales below expectations
"The CEO of the company revealed that there will be a strategy that includes cuts in resources and staff."
Sales lower than estimated in the Christmas season this year. It reveals how the CEO of Electronic Arts, John Riccitiello, revealing that his company is experiencing a profitable period. To cope with this situation, we will proceed to a cut of resources and personnel regarding the fiscal year 2010.
According to Riccitiello, sales were below expectations because of 'excessive concentration of licenses in the important Christmas season. Games like Need for Speed: Undercover, Mirror's Edge and Rock Band 2 did not generate the revenue estimates.
As for cuts, in a conference with investors, Riccitiello said that certainly will not affect the division of EA Sports, and will be equally divided into the core and the casual. "Even if there was a general increase in the quality of our products this year, we are disappointed that sales have not reached expected levels," said Riccitiello.
"In view of these results and the international economic crisis, we are forced to proceed with a plan for cuts in fiscal 2010. In addition to cuts, Electronic Arts provides a greater effort for PC games online. The bulwark of this strategy is Star Wars: The Old Republic, officially announced last October and in development at the headquarters.
"We will continue to treat models based on subscriptions" adds the CEO of EA. "The model we have used War hammer Online is the clearest instance of this strategy."
