External hard drive crashes the Network!
Hi there,
I purchased this external hard drive of 500GB with the intent of using it within my Apple Extreme network. It was terrible. Not only did the drive constantly appear and disappear from the desktop, it was constantly causing my network to crash as well. It may work well as a USB drive, but connected directly to a router is another story.
please help me if anybody has the solution of it.
Thanks to those how helps.

Try to do this usual checks:
- Changed the cable
- Switched the SATA board connection
- Run the Dianostic tools

Have you take the back-up the data to another hard drive ( i would use Drive Image XML to save some space; by that I mean, a drive image is about 1/2 the size of the actual drive partition ........ then I would wipe the drive with a free utility like Killdisk ....... then partition and format the drive using Partition Magic
hopefully it will be more dependable after that ...................
BTW: which windows service pack are you running and what is your motherboard make and model number ................... you "may" have to update your bios to get your motherboard to play nice with a 500GB hard drive .............. some boards I have worked with will wig out after 750gig drive size
