Dell Inspiron 7000 graphics problem
New Inspiron 7000.
My Specs:
512 Meg memory
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Pentium M 1.6 GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 - 64 Megs
From day one this has had problems on boot-up. Sometimes works fine, boots into login screen, you login and everything works. Sometimes it boots into no display at all (seems to switch off). The display seems to work fine in safe mode and if it boots into a black screen in Windows "normal" mode then attaching a monitor allows one to see the display.
I suspected a driver problem - reinstalled the graphics drivers - still does the same thing.
Any ideas as to the problem or a solution.
Re: Dell Inspiron 7000 graphics problem
At first glance, sounds like the X300 is going bad since it can't consistently produce "normal mode" resolutions but can boot to safe mode.
This assumes you've ruled out all potential software settings and changes.

Could be a loose card. I'd call Dell support and have them walk you through the trouble shooting.
Re: Dell Inspiron 7000 graphics problem
Check your power settings. I had a similar problem and changed the power settings back to "laptop". You can also check to see if your Inspiron powers down when you close the lid. If not, you could also have a bad lid switch.
