Need advice for buying a HDD
I need your advice for buying a HDD.
Let me explain: I have 2 250GB hard disks, one dedicated to my Linux environment, the other Windows. I move my sensitive information from one to another to minimize the risk of loss.
But since a few months my windows HDD has more spams. In addition, XP is often having a problem. For example, today I checked the hard disk for errors and it found around 20 bad sectors. Eventually I fear for my data.
I wonder because it has been 2 years and I had no bad things happened (although used 7/8 hrs/day on an average). Is this the end of its life?
So to replace it, I want a reliable disc (no need of quantity since I will not store movies or download things).
Re: Need advice for buying a HDD
I would say you should go for Western Digital WD 7200RPM 640 GB SATA HDD 640GB.
Just see this http://cgi.ebay.in/Western-Digital-W...130124001r2023

Tell your budget and then we can tell you what you can buy in that budget.
Re: Need advice for buying a HDD
Thank you for your replies. My budget is around Rs. 4000. Western Digital 640GB hard disk really looks cool but I think I should look for 250 GB. I guess I usually use it for few games, graphics design, internet surfing, not large files (no movies at all).
Re: Need advice for buying a HDD
From what I know the Seagate drives are very reliable. They are good discs in all. Just go for 250GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 hard disk.
Re: Need advice for buying a HDD
No thanks because my brother has given me a Seagate hard disk drive few months ago. But unfortunately it never served (just a week or two).
Seagate is not bad if guaranteed 5 years apparently.
Re: Need advice for buying a HDD
Well I have used a Maxtor DiamondMax 160GB and a 250GB DiamondMax hdd, and it is really noisy! I replaced it with Seagate 320GB, it is also not perfect but it is much better. I have also used Samsung HD400LD which has very disappointing performance. Western Digital WD6400AAKS is the most reliable according to me.
