Corrupted file and defrag problems
I had an error msg which asked that I run the chkdisk utility. I was finally able to do that using cmd prompt, but it was not able to repair the bad sector. I decided to uninstall the software which I had just installed a couple of days ago, Pinnacle, where the bad file was. But I was not able to remove the corrupted file - c:\program files\pinnacle\shared files\programs\pclePvr\supported3\sources\pinnacle PCTV801e(USB2)\
Also, it seems that I cannot even run defrag on my c: drive now. What should I do to correct the above problems?:crybaby:
Appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks very much, CL
Re: Corrupted file and defrag problems
did you try defrag from safe mode?
if you have a windows disc you may want to try a repair
chkdsk /p run from prompt in repair console
Re: Corrupted file and defrag problems
Did you tried defragment from the command prompt:
Go to Start -> Run -> Type "cmd" and press "ENTER".
On command prompt, type defrag <drive_name> and then press "ENTER"
Re: Corrupted file and defrag problems
Thank you, I'll make a note of this for future reference. I didn't have any disk as I had just moved and my disks were left behind for later. My OS is Vista. Decided to do a factory restore after talking to DELL, only thing is I'm now without my microsoft office software.
