lost recycle bin icon

My brother has a MSI laptop running with Windows XP SP3. There is no problem in the system but don’t know how and why his Recycle Bin icon from the desktop has disappeared. According to him, he delete d a 100 MB file yesterday and since then the recycle bin icon is no visible on the desktop. We tried restarting the laptop several times, tried deleting some more icons to check where does the files go but no success.

Can anyone please tell me how can I recover the Recycle Icon back on desktop? Thanks.

There is nothing to worry about dude, its a small problem. Just download the following .reg file and run the same. Click Yes if prompted for permission: Replace/Repair the Recycle Bin in Windows XP. This will make the necessary changes in the registry to bring back the Recycle Icon on the desktop.

Hello Daigle. Here are the steps you need to go through to Repair the WinXP Recycle Bin:

1. Open the Run box and enter: cmd

2. In the command window, type:
rd /s c:\recycled
Press <ENTER>

3. Download Doug Knox's recycbin-2.reg file:

Download: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/recycbin-2.reg

5. Double-click it or right-click and merge it into the registry.

6. Restart your computer.
