S3 launches its new Chrome 500 GPU Series
In the wake of Chrome 400, launched in early 2008, S3 announced this week the arrival of its new graphics chip, the Chrome 500, we will at first appear on a dedicated card format PCI-Express 2.0, Chrome 530 GT.The manufacturer said that the Chrome 500 should show superior performance by about 30% to those of its predecessor.
The main advantages of this chip lies in its low, as well as its management capabilities of the hardware high definition, since the integrated decompression engine is capable of decoding in hardware formats H.264, MPEG-2 , VC-1, WMV-HD and AVS. Compatible DirectX 10.1 et OpenGL 3.0, le processeur Chrome 500 pourra être associé Ã* des sorties DisplayPort, HDMI ou DVI dual-link, avec prise en charge des protections contre la copie HDCP. DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0, the Chrome 500 processor may be associated with DisplayPort outputs, HDMI or DVI dual-link, with support for protection against copying HDCP.
Already traded around $ 45, the graphics card Chrome 530 GT provides you with a HDMI and DVI connectors, and presents a low-profile format, and a power consumption of 25 W announced that, according to S3, particularly the predispose computers show. The Chrome 500 is then clocked to 625 MHz with 512 MB of memory to 500 MHz GDDR2 on a 64-bit interface.According to S3, the performance of 3D Chrome 530 GT would be slightly higher than a Radeon HD 4350 in 3DMark 2006.

A card for a cheap pc show ...
If decompression is very good, it would be really convenient!

Interesting for a HTPC .... S3 is expected to expand to produce CG performing for the general public because the market is divided between AMD / ATI and NVIDIA ...A third competitor would not hurt and at least the consumer would lower prices .......
