Dual Boot Linux & Vista - Problem

Hello !

i have a problem. I had Vista installed, and after i installed ubuntu 8.10.. but now the grub doesn't recognize the Vista Partition. What should i do?

This is a very commonly asked question and a puzzling one. verify your menu.lst entries.

vim /boot/grub/menu.lst

eheh that's the problem i'm facing... vista doesn't appear on the list of operational system..

can i put the content here?

add these lines then:

title "Windows Vista"

root (hd0,0)

chainloader +1

makedefault

If u are having a sata disk then in the second line give sd0 instead of hd0.

Better put these lines before the lines showing ubuntu

well.. my hd is sata..
and the partition vista is installed is the 5

so, i put
root (sd0,5)

but it gets error 23 on grub.. that is something like "number parse exception" or something like that.. i forgot now! :P
when i put hd instead of sd, it shows "starting up" but doesn't boot..

should i do something?

change sd0 to hd0

I think you misunderstood, I have sata hd and always put as hd0 in grub.

oh yes! i have just read that on grub sata should be put in hd too..
