Retrieve data through external boot
My sister left my PC unbootable from the logo Win XP, it restarts at zero.
I have the CD while Catering to refurbish it before but I have to copy data and photos are stored.
I thought SD put in my box external IDE but it is a SATA HDD. I made a USB key boot with damn small linux but it does not boot. I put a HDD FDI in turn master and I have a blue screen with an error message.
I booted with a linux cd knoppix but I can not find HDD, perhaps the knoppix does not support SATA HDD?
1. Is there a version of knoppix that recognizes SATA HDD ?
2. Would you suggest any other solution to offer me?
Thank you
Re: Retrieve data through external boot
Better try a new Linux distribution Live CD, probably Ubuntu, if the PC hard disk is formatted to NTFS.
Re: Retrieve data through external boot
If the pc restarts from the display of the logo, it might be finding the cause in the first place. Are you having AMD CPU? If yes, then no need to reinstall everything, or move to linux.
Intel disables the pilot through a Safe mode and everything should return to order.
Re: Retrieve data through external boot
Thank you for your responses.
However I think I have downloaded a lot of stuff, and so there may be a virus or something else?
Unable to start in Safe Mode.
1. I suppose that the restoration will format and delete data?
2. If I use a win XP CD and I reinstall it, will it erase my data in my documents or just correct any errors?
Re: Retrieve data through external boot
1. Not necessarily restoring some systems give you the choice: relocation complete with formatting or just resettlement over the existing system. In the first case you lose your data, in the second it is kept
2. If you go on a repair and not an installation, your data will be stored.
