Screen goes black, by "demanding" use
Have a problem. I have just installed Counter Strike and I can not play because after about 5 minutes I get a black screen. What I see is a lit screen with an "off computer".
What can be the cause of this? I've just been given a new video card and running as it should, but it is as if that as soon as I get started with something like demanding to see a movie or play a game that I experienced this. Sometimes it makes it tough when I just sit in a word document or MSN live. I've looked through the whole machinery of hardware failures, but have not tested it. I do not know whether there are any debugging software, respectively motherboard, gfx and RAM, but would be too fat if they did. I blame one of these 3 for this, which I prefer to believe that it is the motherboard, and where I would prefer not to hope that the graphics card.
I intend to buy new motherboard, and probably some new ram here on December 1, and then I intend to return the card.
Re: Screen goes black, by "demanding" use
That can be the drivers issue as I can guess. Can you provide your system config? Would be good to know the cause.
Re: Screen goes black, by "demanding" use
Has anyone know what it is primarily about the problem here?
Setup is:
E8400
P5N-D nForce 750
XFX GTx 260
OCZ sli ready ram
Corsair 750W
x-fi platinum
Then, water cooled ..
hope there is someone who can make a bid for what Damn it can be. But I am pretty sure that it is either a hardware or driver error.
Re: Screen goes black, by "demanding" use
Have you removed the old driver properly?
Check temperature on the graphics card and the CPU.
Is everything water cooled? Enough Airflow of RAM, etc..
Re: Screen goes black, by "demanding" use
All drivers are properly removed, since I also got vista on. CPU is chilled with water, and I've checked their temperatures, which are:
GFX: 44-46,47 idle
CPU: 45-53 degrees
I would like to make a memtest, but can not find something that works well for a 64b Vista OS.
It runs just fine now, when I hear music and sit on the net, but I am sure that if I take a stroke in counter strike, watching a movie, change background or log on to MSN, then it goes off. It is usually the rule as to do
I think it is a hardware failure, and I still have 14 day return on my GTx 260. So will just have it sent back for safety's sake. There was also one who said it could be PSU, and a few others that it was context and mother board .. Argh
Re: Screen goes black, by "demanding" use
Your power supply may be too weak.
Graphics card can be extremely heavy power, and you'll probably take effect on returning PSU with a pinch of salt, especially if it is a cheaper model.
EDIT:
Had not seen your spec. But your power supply should probably be able to handle it ;)

Just had a look into my PC and it appears to be true.
