I don't get any video while playing AVI or MPEG files via windows media player . I have installed all missing codec but no luck. I have tried downloading the latest directx, thinking there might be something wrong with it but i am not able to download the latest one. Please help!!!!!!!
What you mean by you are not able to download it?? Are you getting any error or what?? from which site you are trying to download it? try below site

Thanks for the link but downloading Direct X has not made any difference in my case, i can still not see video while playing Mpeg, Jpeg or AVI files. Is there anything else that i should check out ? or i should simply try some other player like vlc???
Download and install GSpot it will help you in diagnosing issue with Mpeg, Jpeg or AVI files and will let you know the codec required for playing them. If that doesn't help than download and install a program called Decoder Checkup Utility to find out if you are having MPEG2 decoder installed. You can download Decoder Checkup Utility from here.
