On Windows Vista I am not able to get Silverlight update. I had tried to install that around 8 times but still getting the same kind of error. It is not getting installed. It downloads properly. At the time time of setup I am getting error 0x02 and it crashes. Has anyone knows about this error how to troubleshoot the same.
Check that you are trying to install that in admin account only. If you are in a limited account then you will face this kind of issue. It is very important that you install that in admin mode. In regular mode the installation stop and crashes due to low file permission. Silverlight can be installed via Windows Update also. Did you tried that. Are you getting any related update on that basis.
If you are using Windows XP Media Center, then it is important that you find a relative update based on the edition. Or else the problem will be common. I think the edition of silverlight is not proper and you are using some kind of outdated edition. Try to upgrade your web browser also and then see whether the problem is solved or not.
This is the same reason that I'm here as well. Media Center in win7 says sliverlight needs to be updated but will not update. I'm just looking to see what I can do to fix this as win7 says that I have the latest version of Sliverlight is installed.

I have found a no of people facing the same issue but then a no of one has solved this issue by removing the Beta of Silverlight and after that installing version 1.0 along with the Updates that were installed for the beta and then installing version 2.0, if you want then you can try out the same and see if it is helping you.
