I had downloaded Service pack 3 a month ago and since then my system is not able to install important updates for Office 2003. Updates get downloaded but when i try to install them then they get failed every time. As far as i can guess Service pack 3 has messed up something. I am not able to make out what, is there anything i can try out further so that i can install all important updates without any issues?? anyone??
You can try repairing Office 2003 using the installation disk but if that doesn't help then you can try editing below registry subkeys. Just make sure that you are backing up current registry to be at safer side.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0
You can get hold of above registry by typing REGEDIT in run and clicking on 'OK". Once you get them right click on 11.0 , change it to Old11, save it, close Registry Editor and try out the installing update again.

Tried your solution regarding the updates for XP that will not install.
Changed the 11.0 in both subfolders to old11.0, but this is what happened:
Now I have 11.0 & old11.0, each with subfolders of excel, word, powerpoint, etc.
I tried to install the updates and it did not work.
Now when I try and open Word, Excel or Ppoint, it asked me for my 25 digit Key Code (which I don't have it any longer).
Now I'm really stuck as I can't open any app's. Any suggestions?
Get the updates and then make reinstallation of Office 2003. As the reinstallation is been done you need to check out well which will be helpful for you. Then get the updates to install well which will be better for you as required. Do check for the thing and make the installation well as needed. I hope you may then get to a better solution for the thing which is necessary.
Just entered the 25 digit Key and all is fine now. No more trying to change Regsitery entries for me.
