Sharp displayed 52-inch solar powered LCD TV during CEATEC

Sharp displayed its 52-inch LCD TV powered by solar energy during CEATEC 2008.

This new LCD is capable of operating solely from the power generated from sunlight. It uses a backlight LED and also various other technologies in order to reduce it’s power requirements to just 220kWh.

It has not been confirmed as to when we could actually order either the HDTV or the solar panels, nor what would be the pricing of it. We hope to hear some more information from the manufacturer in the near future.

Some people apparently fail to realize that the cable attaching the solar panel to the screen can be over a couple feet in length.
