HELP - Kaspersky Uninstall Mess: Computer Stopping Scripts
So, a buddy of mine had Kaspersky Internet Security trial on his computer ('06 Windows XP Dell laptop). His trial ended and he decided to go back to using McAfee, which he installed before fully uninstalling Kaspersky.
His computer was completely freezing up with the two programs conflicting with each other, and we couldn't get the program to uninstall through the windows utility.
So, in safe mode, we downloaded Revo Uninstaller, ran the program and uninstalled Kaspersky, which seemed to work. Until we rebooted....
Now Kaspersky is gone, off the computer, but some content on the computer won't load. It appears that the computer or mcafee or something is stopping scripts from pulling content on web pages. For example...
www.disneysports.com turns the javascript code into a jumbled mess and only shows a red screen
www.youtube.com loads, but videos don't appear in the window
ESPN.com loads everything but the flash banner/ad at the top
Hotmail doesn't load, just stops on a grey screen
And even more oddly, when we try to bring up McAfee's security center, the loading image appears and then disappears which would normally give way to the control panel. Since taking off kaspersky, the control panel window comes up and now displays absolutely nothing. It shows an empty box.
Absolutely bizarre. We've tried....
-Uninstalling all of the instances of java on his computer, cleaning his registries and re-installing
-Turning all internet settings back to their original settings
-Re-installing internet explorer
Absolutely nothing works.
Can anybody out there help? Has anyone seen a script problem that affects both applications and web pages? McAfee's program wouldn't use flash to pull content, right? All of the pages that we've found to be affected use flash in some way - but the odd thing about this is that it affects the actual McAfee program as well...
:notworthy Please ... anyone?
