Can't find my E drive on my computer
Hi, I am having a Windows XP desktop with Service Pack 3. Yesterday evening I faced power outage all of a suddenly and then on next boot I noticed my E drive which is CD/DVD drive is missing from My computer. Rest two partitions (C:, D:) are visible but E drive is no more. Since then I tried restarting system, checked Bios settings, tried booting with Last Good Known Configuration but nothing helped.
Can anyone please tell me what has went wrong and how can fix the problem? Many Thanks.
Re: Can't find my E drive on my computer
Before trying any other hardcore troubleshooting the very first thing I will suggest you is to check in Device Manager. Click Start > RUN > type ‘devmgmt.msc’ , and press Enter. Locate your DVD drive here and see if there is any Yellow mark on the same. For more info check this MS KB describing troubleshooting unknown devices Listed in Device Manager: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314464/
Re: Can't find my E drive on my computer
Thanks for the help buddy. As per your suggestion i went to device manager i found a yellow exclamation mark against my DVD drive. When i tried troubleshooting the same it gave me an error message saying:
"windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device (Code 41)".
Now what kind of error is this?
Re: Can't find my E drive on my computer
Hello Omeshh, though i dont have any personal experience with this kind of error, but i found few MS Knowledge Base articles describing the same problem with solution. I am sure that will help you out.
You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an error message after you remove a CD recording program or a DVD recording program in Windows XP: "error code 31" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

Re: Can't find my E drive on my computer
Help appreciated Maee. Though none of those articles worked for me, i managed to fix the problem somehow finally. I dont know what was causing the problem but i simply tried restoring my computer to a restore point created last month. After reboot i found my E drive back to My Computer.
Thank you for all your helps.
