Adprep for for 2003SP2 DC

Hi, I need a bit help from you all. As of now I’m having a Windows 2K and Windows 2003 SP1 DC. Apart from these I was trying to promote a new Windows 2003 with Service Pack 2. But while doing the same I got a warning saying I need to run adprep/forestprep. I don’t think it would be possible to run the adprep utility because this is a 64bit machine.

Hence what I need to know here is do I need to download a new 32bit OS? If yes, what version? Do I need to run this on each DC or just 1? Please help.

Hello ridergroov. I would know whether the third DC you are talking about is running with R2 edition? If yes, then you can surely get appropriate version of adprep.exe (5.2.3790.2075) in the CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP\ folder on the second R2 installation CD.

This is the best solution as of now.

I have windows 2003 Sp1 DC (x86 32 bit). Now i am planning to add additional domain controller which is running 2003 r2 64 bit. while running dcpromo i got schema error and it stoped.Kindly let me know wat need to be done to prome it as ADC.

I have 2003 r2 disk 2. i want to confirm whr i have to execute the adprep /foresprep command.

Is it on 2003 sp1 dc(32 bit) or 2003 r2 (64 bit)

Execute the adprep /foresprep command on the Windows 2003 sp1 dc(32 bit) first. If this works then run through the dcpromo wizard on the Windows 2003 r2 64 bit server. If everything goes ok then you can finally move to the next step of adding DNS etc.
