Need help setting up 2 Vista PC's with crossover cable

Hi, After many hours and days i'm getting seriously frustrated at this dilema. I am a total newbie to networking and thought that this would be a simple Plug & Play scenario, connecting 2 Vista PC's with a Crossover cable.

I have the main computer connected to the net via a Zyxel router and usb port and want the 2nd vista PC to be able to share files and net access with the 1st.

Can anyone please help me with a step by step procedure that will get these 2 PC's talking to each other.
