Overclocking a laptop

I wonder if I can overclock my Laptop of Compaq having 120 GB hard drive. Is it possible.

Most laptops doesn't have options to tweak speed of CPU. In fact, I think there is no need to overclock a laptop coz they already are equipped with better cooling solution for the processor.

Overclocking a laptop is not a good idea. Attempting to overclock a laptop leads to overheat it. For getting better speed, using linux is good.

I dont believe that Linux is good for tweaking the laptops speed. I have seen Linux installed on such machines which doesn't do very well. Especially, this is the case with newer machines.

Adding Ram will be the best way for tweaking up the speed for Laptop. Upgrade the Ram upto 2-3 GB for the best speed. This will almost eliminate disk swapping. Any such think that doen't requires disk usage is advisable.

The modem when not in use will be advisable to remove as it goes on using little battery in idle mode. They also consume a few extra CPU cycles.

And lastly, defrag the disks frequently and also run scandisk sometimes. Coz this will minimize disk access time which will ultimately help to tweak up some little amount of speed.

You might feel curious about that and try to do it yourself. But be carefull, unless you are a real techie, you might mess up with the CPU and its a very sensitive unit. Better handle this task to the experts.
