Choosing a new CPU, help

Hi,

I need to choose new cpu for a used computer & need your advice on it. My present specs are HP Pavilion DV2000 with AMD Sempron 2400+ & 1 gb of ram. It will not be used for gaming or graphics but just ordinary home use liek word, excel, internet surfing, etc. Now why i changing this is because it is being used since for many years & the psu is already giving up with making noises and also the hard drive is giving up. Now what I need to have is a mobo/ socket that will last for 2 or 3 years? How about getting something like a 775 socket? Thanks for any help

Thanks for the suggestion but I already got a monitor so I dont need one. I just need to make a choice for mobo / cpu and they are already available here in tons at a US $100 to $500 which is quite good than the Dell pcs. So any suggestions on this would perhaps help me out? Thanks

You have to give us your excatd budget for the build & some online store that you want to buy from so that we will have some idea of the components & their availability with their prices in the market.
