ASUS A7v8x-x Motherboard panel trouble

I need help setting up the front panel audio jacks for my brother so that he can use his headphones. I have the above mobo with a generic case which is black in color. The headphones as well as my sound system which is 5.1 are not working although i know how to wire it. My onboard sound card comes with the Soundmax software i think. As soon as i use the front audio jacks I cannot listen to 5.1 sound removing the jumper to connect the left & right leads which disables the front speakers. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong i am doing? Also in my other pc i have a sb live sound card which i dont know might work with the sound system?

I think your headphones is limited to sound only when you use it therefore it is taking sound from the front speaker only. ;)

You may be right but I already tried by switching back & forth through the software but it is not the case here. I think it is not possible to use both on Asus as it is giving me limited information. I cannot switch the headphones on through the front but i an switch the microphone which is just a big pain for me.
