Have new laptop, can't print to network printer
I have a HP printer connected to Windows XP desktop and its shared on my Home Network Router. Yesterday a bought a brand new HP laptop with Windows Vista and connected it on the same network wirelessly. Don’t know why I’m not able to access the printer though it is shared.
As am new in this stuff, can anyone please let me know the step by step process for accessing the printer from my laptop? Help will be appreciated. Thank you.
RE: Have new laptop, can't print to network printer
Your details are less enough to understand the problem and its cause properly. You said you are not able to access the printer connected and shared with windows XP but are you able to atleast see or access Windows XP on your Vista Network?
Anyways, first of all you should Turn On the file and Printer sharing on your XP desktop. Allow file and Printer sharing from your Windows Firewall. If you have any third party firewall installed, just uninstall it. Now go to Vista laptop, open up Printer’s Manufacturer website and download the most recent drivers. Install it on your laptop. Once installed, search it in the network and add it.
That’s it. You will be able to find it and print from Vista as well.

Hi, make sure you have the following setting:
In the Sharing and Discovery section of the Network and Sharing Center window, click the down arrow next to File sharing.Within the File sharing settings, click Turn on file sharing, and then click Apply.
