Blue Screen of Death -- HELLPPP!!! URGENT

HI guyz,

I got a new Rig 2 weeks ago:

AMD64 2800
ASUS K8N
512mb hynix 400mhz
Gigabyte ATI 9600pro 128mb
sony dvd RW
seagte 40gb hdd(old hdd)
kunwahar 400W powersuppy (powersafe)
Creative 6.1 inspire

BUt from the time i have bought it have been facing this BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH crashes consistently.But really had been facing this problem since my older p3 machine. but was hoping it wont repeat now.

The blue screen flashed an error like DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL and something like that.

first i tried xp pro without sp1 and had many probs.
then i installed sp1 and it worked fine for some days then again had this problem.
Now i have got xp pro media center edition with SP2...WHICH WAS SUPOSEDLY THE SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. but now today faced the same problem again.
Am absolutely confused as to what the problem is.
Got latest nforce drivers and new ati catalyst drivers...even replaced my ram to see if that was giving problem...but to no avail.. :no:

Saw on some websites that some nvidia card users had similar probems...also almost all amd64 users had this problem as the data execution prevention (DEP) in amd64 processors where confused with the NX bit protocol and would stop any malicious software by blocking a memiory address.

But seriously....have tried almost everything now.... :crybaby:

Its upto u guyz now to do something.

Also i use a usb ADSL modem for my broadband...still wondering if that is causing the problem.

Seriously I havent had a single BOD since I installed XP first on my P2, then later on an XP 2400+ and now on a A64 3000+
Do you have any PCI devices installed?

Hmm maybe that may be causing some issues. Have you tried removing the card, and check if the comp is stable or not?

I suggest you strip your machine down to bare minimum (remove firewire card etc) and boot from a Live Linux CD (say, UBUNTU or Knoppix) and let it run for a while and see whether there is any problem. That will let you isolate whether it is a hardware or a software problem.

Has got a whole list of STOP error messages. the error you mention seems to be a faulty RAM (as per the 2nd site given above) give it a try... :)

EDIT: you know what? I came across this site just today. am having the same kinda problems till date. will switch RAM and try. woohoo :whistling

yup...tried strriping the ram...and got a new ram chip...same problem again.

And where do u get these live linux cds?

have fedora core 3 isos from DIGIT dvd..will that help.

And will surely try removing the pci firewire card.

I think Digit carried a Knioppix distro in its DVD a few months back. Otherwise it is avilable for download on the net. But a huge download of about 650 MB. For a list of mirrors visit:

hi

I removed the pci firewire card and the system is pretty stable till now(Touchwood)

Will give one more update on the system status later.

But if it was this pci card giving problem...why was it really giving the problem...how do i use my firewire port handycam now?

Also i was planing to have a TV tuner card and remote for my Media center edition 2005 Xp .(Will start a diff thread for it).........So will adding a TV tuner card which i think is PCI cause problems again?

bad news guyz,

My rig crshed again.Had kept it on overnight for downloads and when i woke up it had crashed again. So dont thing the PCI card was a problem.

So what next...any other solution??????

Must be IRQ conflicts...these get real ugly.....

My P3 had 3 PCI slots.....If i used all three, the TV Tuner wouldnt work....I had no potion but to remove it :( coz i cant remove the Soundcard (P3 oced, onboard sound conked) and obviously, the modem.

Also, if i plugged in an external HDD (HDD in external casing, USB) my secondary channel (secondary master and slave) wudnt work until i plugged the HDD off and restarted......

If it IS IRQ conflicts, they you have no other option to go.......except get a mobo with onboard firewire ;)

What are the temperatures???? make usre you get some software thay records the temperatures at every instant ( like ASUS Probe ) it'll determine if the crash was caused by Voltage or temperatures....

are u sure it wud be cos of voltage or temp .

The worst i fear is hardware problems. I have got my gfx card ,ram and powersafe powersource from bbay. and rest all stuff back here from blore....

unless i figure out the problem i cant even go to my dealer in blore for a hardware replacement.(But this is the worst i fear..i hope its a s/w issue)

also mite have to download linux live cd..if system is stable for that long.

I had ordered those ubuntu cds but nothings arroived yet...almost 2 months now.

but keep ur suggestions poring in..i need them desparately now

Definetly IRQ problem...

Hey....try switching PCI slots, i mean stick the PCI card to a different slot....

BTW IMHO, the PC crashing while dloading can be a software issue too :) i've experienced it many times......

Just found something while looking for something else. Sounds like your problem and the solution. I am pasting it from the MSI forum.

nVidia networking bus enumerator/nVidia networking bus enumerator driver

Problem pops up:
At very first network activity (anti virus update, windows update and soo on) or at random times (downloading/surfing the web/ftp).

Problem description:
Suddenly, there are network activity, after a few seconds a BSOD sowing the message "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" pops up. The operating system points to the NVSNPU.SYS driver like the culprit of the exception.

Possible cause:
Bug in driver / nVidia's Firewall.

Possible work around 1:
Disable nVidia nForce 3 firewall (this work around is in testing process at this moment)

Possible work around 2:
Disabling Data Execution Prevention would alleviate this issue.
To disable DEP:
Edit boot.ini and change /noexecute=optin to /noexecute=allwaysoff

I dont think DEP is the culprits, K8V boards support the feature and its pretty stable. Could be the Nf3 firewall...

Ya..have already disabled DEP by editing Boot.ini........doesnt help

Also tried disableing Nf3 firewall(didnt install nf3 firewall drivers)...still had similar problems then.

Also sunmysore...i have no pci devices right now...so swapping mite not help...

have some frds in California with new rigs with amd 64 3200 and via motherborads with ati 9800...they r facing similar problems of driver IRQL ............and BSOD

And Pagladashu....yup...similar problem to the one you have shown...but in my case its NDIS.sys thats cauing the problem instead of NVSNPU.SYS

I nEVER said SWAP, just put it in some other PCI slot, for ex, if u have it in the 2nd slot, try the third or the fifth, and so on.

But seriously do you get the same BSOD of Win 98 days? Or does the comp restart or just plain hang...

Hmm I thought BSOD was dead with WIN XP

Do a clean install of Win XP with SP2 and install the drivers provided with the CD and see if it re-occurs..

Aces...even i didnt believe it when i got BSODs on XP...thot it was the ultimate OS....it still is the best the MS can offer...but...lotsa issues

And believe me...i have formatted my hdd last two weeks more than anyone in blore i guess...been trying different xps ...home..pro...mce...mce2k5....

that combined with diff service packs...sp1..sp2....automatic online updates..

and that combined with diff driver versions....tried diff nforce drivers...all 6.xx drivers
not to mention diff ati drivers..the original one...catalyst...DNA...and what not

even tried replacing my RAM chip with a new one...

nothings helped so far..

yesterady even removed my pci firewire card...

still no luck...

i Have to add that i get this BSODS only when i overload my Rig too much...like 2 diff p2p softwares downloaidn...a NAV computer scan going on....and some other thing ...and BANG...BSOD

and most of the time when i keep it on overnight for downloads...

am having serious doubts about my BEETEL ADSL usb modem now....

still trying different things continuously..

I really dont trust my comp dealer can do any better...so not at all visiting him for solutions..

lets see....hope i can do it with everyones help here

keep the solutions coming though...i really appreciate it

is there any driver name specified when you get the bsod ?

what are your system temps like ? try running task manager to see if the bsod happens when your cpu use goes to 100% or when theres very little memory space left

could be your memory as well , try giving it a bit higher voltage in the bios or loosen the memory timings

also try running memtest to rule out memory problems

try running without any peripherals like modem , sound card etc till you sort out your problems

just some locns like 0x00000001 and some more...something like thta

also NDIS causes the problem according to it.

Have you disabled the "legacy USB Support" in the bios? Please check that. If yes, then change it to auto.

EDIT:
Also try that "Load Failsafe Default" or something similar that is there in the Bios

googled for ndis .. most errors seem to point to irq conflicts or a problem with a netgear network adaptor. are you on a network or anything ?

memory timings should be in the advanced menu of bios under chipset

try a timing of 3-4-4-8 with 1t/2t timing set to auto.

I think i got it!

Hi guyz....

I think i got what the problem is ....am 90% sure. :thumbsup:

Its my Beetel (globespanvirata usb adsl wan modem) dsl modem.

I have a Airtel(touchtel) dsl connection. The problem is with the drivers of this modem and some update by microsoft.
They had done some update in sp1 or 2 for DHCP Media Sensing which causes BSOD while downloading from P2P s/w or rather any downloads for a longer period of time...or something like that

the bottom line is that the usb modem requires new drivers.

I even tried disabling DHCP media sense in windows registry...but even thats not helping.

I searched the net for new drivers but they r nowhere avilable...just one site with nov 2003 drivers.. :boo:

Can anyone lemme know where i can get the drivers for this one or any workaround.

I have replaced my usb adsl modem with a router.

So no more BSODS for now...yeahhhh.....it was the usb modem causing problems all along i guess.
