Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
One more thing to remember is that when I put in this new harddrive and did a complete erase and sector repair that at 3% it crashed. That and the boot loader not loading on the new harddrives makes me feel like its something different than the drivers causing the problem, and that maybe something with hardware or BIOS is the problem. The other harddrives up to this point at least let me load the OS. The boot loader problem is just something new with this last harddrive. But even with the OS loaded it crashes...

fleart1,
When you are in safe mode, can you try to go to Start and then in the search box type msconfig. After that press Enter key and click Boot tab, at the top and under Boot options, you have to make sure that there is no check mark in front of Safe Boot, in fact, make sure there are no checkmarks anywhere and lastly click OK when everything is done.
Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
no, nothing was checked. Only thing in there was 30 seconds under timeout seconds.
Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
Is there an engineer out there? Like I mentioned earlier, this only happens when "NOT" in safe mode. In safe mode the sound card does not work, could that be the problem? What else does not work in safe mode? I tried removing each memory card then replacing but it still crashed so that is not the problem.
Please reply asap because I really cant afford a mother board right now!
Thanks
Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
hi fleart1,
How old is the laptop? Is it still under warranty? You should try to call your OEM or the brand of that company and ask them to replace it with a working laptop, if only it is under warranty. If your laptop cannot be cured with either reloading the OS, then it is definitely a hardware problem other than a software glitch.
Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
Warranty wore out 2 weeks ago, but I am overseas and it is an extended warranty good only in the US. What other hardware components are affected in safe mode like the sound card then?
Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
One other strange thing about this. When I go to safe mode for about an hour and then reboot to normal it doesn't crash for about 40 minutes. If I go directly into normal it crashes in 5 minutes and continues this pattern?

Can you post any error messages that are repeating from the Event Viewer concerning startup. To go into Event Viewer first click on Start >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Event Viewer. Look into the System section and see if there are any kind of error message generating, post them here so that we can have a look.

Re: I have a problem with Vista - Windows Explorer keeps crashing
Hello fleart1,
You are getting an error event 41 which is used to report that something unexpected happened that prevents Windows from shutting down correctly. Therefore, I will recommend you to do a clean boot which is a step of troubleshooting, please follow the below link on how to clean boot windows 7:
