0x80070005 is this instance is a Permissions issue
You've waited since January of '06 to rectify this ?
Why not attempt to Repair Windows Defender from Add/Remove Programs in
the Control Panel ... open Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs
Locate Windows Defender, click once on it to highlight it, click the
Change button and attempt to Repair it.
If that doesn't resolve the issue then try manually updating it:

In the right frame under ' Latest Definition Updates ' click the
32 bit link under ' Windows Defender Antispyware '
Save mpas-fe.exe
Close the browser and then double click mpas-fe.exe
Did that get the definition update installed ?
