help! : explorer.exe - application error

I am not able to use my pc right now because of some problem. Whenever I am trying to login, I am getting an error message that states "Explorer.EXE - Application Error. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000033). Click on OK to terminate the application." After I click on OK, then nothing happens. Windows will not load anything anymore. There is no taskbar, no desktop icons, etc. The only thing that works is ctrl+alt+del keys which lets me to shut down the computer? Please help.

You can try to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP, just follow the steps given here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978788

Try to login into safe mode and then do a system restore to a previous date and see if that works fine or not. Also, if there are any viruses then try to scan your pc with some antivirus software and see if that helps.

I tried going into safe mode but all I see is a black screen. I can still access programs though. I figured out that if you hit
ctrl/alt/delete -->
task manager -->
applications tap --->
new task.

I can then start up any program I need, such as iTunes..ect. So if anybody could figure out the location of explorer.exe then the problem could be solved.
