Configuration of Windows Vista Media Center with Xbox on Router
I am using Windows Vista here. Media Center is running on the same. There is a router connected to the network. Also the firewall is turned on. I had connected a Xbox also on the network. And it is detected well. I can connect to Xbox live. So that means that the network is active and I can use internet. I added a extender to the network. When I checked inside the extender was not detected. It is a UPnP device. So it should be detected at connectivity. In the router setup everything is enabled. But still Xbox fails to stream the content. I had contacted my friend who was aware about the setup and he also does not understand problem behind that.

It is better if you forward a port in the router. After forwarding you would be able to access your files freely. The video streaming will work. You have to configure the settings directly in the router itself. Once the Xbox gets a dedicated port your would be able to share the media content and view your files. Turn of the firewall if needed.

These ports should be opened in your PC's firewall. There is no need to modify any port settings on your router xbox router (because the PC and Xbox should both be on the LAN side of your router, the router's firewall does not come into play)
