error 88780078
I am on my home desktop running Windows XP OS and it is working fine from last 2 years but suddenly it started giving me the above error. Actually there are two problems am going to describe here, hope you guys can help me. First of all I get message to re-install direct sound drivers because they are not correct. I get this whenever I try to launch Windows Media Media Player. But when I go to device manager to update or reinstall the drivers I can only see that my system is having legacy audio driver and wont allow me to do anything with the installed drivers. In short, I am unable to reinstall them again.
The second problem is my system wont allow me do anything in Volume Controls. It tells me to first get Mixer Control from Printers and Other hardware Section. But when I go to printers section from start menu, there is nothing called Other hardware ? What could be the reason behind all these problems? Is it my Sound Card? How can I fix it all ?

RE: error 88780078
Yes, it could be your Sound Card problem. Well, lets try out some workaround. Go to Start, Open Control Panel. Go to Sounds and Audio Devices or Multimedia. Click on Audio Tab. Now under Sound Playback, just ensure that the 'Default device:' drop-down box correctly reflects your soundcard. If it is not, do it now and reboot. Check if you are still getting the error.

Thanks for your help, but it seems like there is still this problem. When I went to Sounds and Audio Devices, all my options are grayed out. Now what ?
