I have recently bought a new pc with Vista home. After the installation was completed, I was getting an error code 10 with the cd/dvd driver because of the daylight savings time was changed by me. I did some research online and found that if i uninstalled it in device manager and recovered my system then everything would work fine and it did. But soon after a day or so, i again started to get this error code 10. What should i do, can anyone help me out.
Try the below method and see if it helps or not:
1. Click the Start button and select Run.
2. In the text box, type msconfig and click OK.
3. Select the Startup tab.
4. Clear all the checkbox of the Startup Items and click OK.
5. Click on the Exit button without restarting.
6. Right click on My computer and then choose Properties.
7. Select the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
8. Click the plus sign (+) next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
9. Click the right mouse button in USB Mass Storage Device and select Delete.
10. Insert a CD into the CD-ROM that comes with all the included drivers and install everything. Thus, the controller is installed.
11. Restart the computer and see if the error fades away.
Well, if you have itunes installed then immediately uninstall it. The Itunes version that is released has some bugs in it, which when installed on Vista corrupts the cd/dvd driver, and since there is no vista version of itunes made till now, we will have to wait till the time when it is officially released for the Vista OS.
What worked for me was, I went into device manager and then clicked on the cd/dvd drive and i removed it. After a restart, i was prompted that a new device was found in my vista system and then i immediately installed it and voila, my cd/dvd started to work again. And still if that doesnt work for you, then if you have any old version of iTunes installed then try to uninstall it and reinstall the latest version that might be available on apple site. You can also check the cable of the cd/dvd drive incase if it is bad or so, then test with a new one. Also uninstall any burning software such as Nero software or so and also see if the problem gets resolved.
There is an easy solution to this problem:
- First of all click Start, then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Find the subkey of the following registry:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11ce-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- On the File menu, click Export.
- In the File Name box, type savedkey, then click Save.
- Click LowerFilters key and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
- Click UpperFilters key, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
- Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
the error code 10 with the cd drive can be fixed if uninstall ITunes in case u have it installed.it worked instantly in windows 7
