Firefox 33.1 version now available for download

To celebrate ten years of Firefox, Mozilla publishes a 33.1 version of the popular browser.

This is the time for the festivities celebration for Mozilla Firefox over a decade. Developers will be entitled to a browser that is to be dedicated for them. However, the average user has not been forgotten.

Surprise indeed, while Firefox 34 will be available on November 24, it is a 33.1 version which is now available. This will mark the occasion but as indicated by the number of this version, nothing major is updated.

Of the four new products announced, one of which is complementary to the privacy feature for deleting the history. A "Clear data" button is especially dedicated to this task. It is to be added to the toolbar through the Customize menu.

The button allows you to choose how long to clear (last five minutes, two hours or 24 hours). After pressing it, Firefox clears the browsing history and cookies for the specified duration. Open tabs are closed and Firefox restarts with a blank window.

In the list of search engines for the dedicated field, a new entrant emerged: DuckDuckGo which has built its reputation as a search engine friendly with privacy. In addition, a Guide of confidentiality provides a guided tour of the privacy features of Firefox in the update.

A message on the new tab page that explains more thumbnails from sites most frequently is consulted, others are sponsored by partners of Mozilla thumbnails.

Here we touch on the quest for new forms of revenue for Mozilla, still very dependent on its agreement with Google which is nearing its end (the new negotiations are ongoing). With improved thumbnails, there is no collection of personally identifiable information. "Data collection is limited to a set including the number of clicks and views and the location of thumbnails."

Furthermore, to emphasize that the user retains control and may well decide to disable the enhanced thumbnails. If applicable, no data is collected.

Firefox 33.1 is broadcasted via the mechanism of automatic updates or can be downloaded from this page to the platform of their choice.
