Gigabyte 7870 Crossfire vs Hd 7970
I want to buy a new graphics card so after researching a lot I have made up my mind of either 2 Gigabyte 7870 in Crossfire or a single Hd 7970. I was wondering if getting the single Hd 7970 card could work almost at the same performance like the 2 Gigabyte 7870. I have also heard that having 2 cards in crossfire we get many frame rate drops and micro stuttering? In any case, please suggest me which one should I go for? Thanks

Can you tell us what is your budget? It is true that getting a single HD 7970 wont give you any heating trouble and it will also remain quieter. But ideally the 2x7870 card would be much faster and you will also require a power supply above 1000 watts if I am not wrong. You would be able to use this card for 2-3 years because games after that will be more demanding and you will again have to upgrade.

You should get a Nvidia card if you want to go with a multiple graphics card. But a single HD 7970 will be more than enough and you can also expect best performance from it. Incase you plan for Nvidia card then go with the GTX 780 but note that this card will cost you more than $600 for sure. Getting a multiple card is going to be useless in my opinion though.

What other computer components do you have because if it is low compared to the graphics card that you are buying then it will simply bottleneck. So getting new hardware will be a good idea and you will get the same performance with a single HD 7970. There are many problems right now with Crossfire than SLI but having multiple cards will always give you some problems.
