Chances of getting indie games on Steam
I and my friends are have developed game and are planning to launch it on Steam. I have read that Steam accepts such indie games on their website. We will try our best to have the game on Steam; does anyone else know what the advantages are or how things work when putting ones game on Steam? Will the game be purchased as we also need some money that we had invested in making of the game?
Re: Chances of getting indie games on Steam
If you make a good game with good graphics, good storyline, good gameplay and enough material to get people’s attention, then the game is bound to be sold in the market. You should test your game in every way possible. The people who buy games can be very cruel towards the developers. One bug or error and the whole forum will be filled with complaints regarding it. This will reduce the sales of the game. If ever a bug id found then you must be ready to provide patch or solution within a couple of days.

The success of indie games can be random. No one can guarantee its success. If you are making a first person shooter or strategy game, then you will have competition from the mainstream games. When you get into competition with mainstream game the only thing that can bring you success id the X-factor that defines your game. The X-factor can be anything ranging from out of the world story or never seen before gameplay. If your game has something that people have never experienced before, then your game will go on to become a success.

The main advantage of having your game on Steam is that it reaches wide number of people. Many indie game developers create their own website for the game. This is the one big mistake they do. Not many people tend to visit the individual website. But on Steam, a gamer who visits their website will get a list of variety of games of different class and categories. So Steam is a great platform for launching an Indie game.

Just uploading a game on Steam won’t assure you customers for it. You need to have a good business plan to promote it. Steam is filled with numerous games that will overshadow your game. No one will notice your game unless you advertise it. You need to create multiple trailers. You need to develop close up sots of the games character, show them in action. You will need to promote not only on Steam but also on other gaming websites. This will ensure at least a few looks for your game.

Steam can’t publish thousands of game that they are requested to do every day. Of all the games they receive they can’t check each and every game if it is worth to be launched on their website. So you need to get Valve’s attention towards your production to get success.

You will receive more criticism on your game than appreciation. You need to face it with a smiling face rather than get aggressive. The criticism will show what your game lacks and then you can improvise your next game in that field.
