Charging Nokia N8 using USB without connecting it to computer USB

I have a Nokia N8. I charge it using my default charge as well as it charges when connected to a computer’s USB port. I have a car charger from my old Blackberry phone which connects to USB port of my mobile but doesn’t charge it. Can anyone tell me some way by which I can charge the phone using car charger?

I too tried doing this once. Tried all the 4 modes of connectivity in USB connection settings but never worked with car charger. This does not even work for Belkin surge protector USB ports. I have also tried various Blackberry car chargers but nothing works in that range.

The default chargers that charge Nokia N8 as well as USB connectors of the computer use AC charge. Chargers using AC charge have their pin no. 2 & 3 shorted together. So once connected to phone, it recognized the type of charge and starts charging. If the 2 pins are not shorted then it is recognized as USB charger. Phone requires some data to recognize how much power to get while charging. Once the value is acquired it starts charging.

As mentioned above in reply, Nokia N8 needs charger with pin 2 & 3 shorted. The car chargers don’t have pin 2 & 3 shorted. Moreover, N8 doesn’t have software with data to limit the charge incoming from car chargers. If software is made to control incoming charge from a car charger, then it might help. Shorting a car chargers pin 2 & 3 can also help. N8 just cares about pin 2 & 3 being shorted, if it can be done with help from some professional, t will help. If you have knowledge about electronic chargers you can do it too by referring to videos or tutorials online.

There is this car charger on Amazon for Nokia N97 which works with Nokia N8 too. My friend uses it and I tried it once and it works.It is Nokia Official OEM car charger.
