Re: How to convert Microsoft Office document into OpenOffice format
I don’t have used this OpenOffice but however there is some other word processing application available libreoffice which can open the Microsoft file but can’t edit that document. So first try to open the Office document in your OpenOffice with the help of Open with option and if it fails to open then it means the Office doc format is not compatible with this OpenOffice application.

May be the officie file you are trying to open there in OpenOffice is of older version. Then try this out may it help for that you just install the latest version of Microsoft Office there in your System and then open your file into that newly install office and then after opening in this new office you can switch those document to open in OpenOffice Application. May this will works for you to overcome this issue.
