Excel 2003 file format s not properly specified
I have a Excel 2003 .xls file that is causing some sort of problem! When I try and open it then I am get a warning message "The file you are trying to open, 'myfile.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension". When I click to open the file the data appears corrupted. Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue?

I think you need some kind of recovery tool which can help you to recover files of Excel. Before that try to re-install office. There is a tool called as Corrupt Excel File Repair Software. It allows you to repair both files like .Xls and .Xlsx file. It can effectively repair excel files damaged due to virus attacks, sudden system shutdown, network interruptions while transferring files from one system to another, software failure, etc.

Try to save the file as html and then open it. You can do that to get your data. The file can be opened yet somehow, you can filter out the data stored by storing the table in HTML format. That goes with the command "Save As" and the file type "Website" or "Single Web Archive".

It is important first to get your data and then go for the recovery process. Because if the entire file is corrupted you cannot see your data. There is an option for the same. Download and install Excel viewer. This tool offers you to open and view Excel files.
