MS-Project > Linked tasks, but dates dont' move
SOS. I am using MS-project 2003 professionial edition - when i link tasks, the second task should move its start date to the completion of task 1 start date and it doesn't - please help (it has nothing to do with fixed tasks or durations)
What I start with:
Task 1, duration 2days, (default) start date Jan 1, 2011
Task 2, duration 1 day, (default) start date Jan 1, 2011
What I expected:
When i link task 2, to task 1, using a finish-start dependency, task 2 should automajically show a start date of Jan 3 as shown below (But it DOESN'T):
Task 2, duration 1 day, (default) start date Jan 3, 2011
What is incorrectly displayed:
Instead it shows a link, but, it appears to be a start start link (even though i confirmed it was a finish start link). Here's what i get after linking:
Task 2, duration 1 day, (default) start date Jan 1, 2011
Can you please help me??
Sad and sorry.
Re: MS-Project > Linked tasks, but dates dont' move
Looks a issue with misconfiguration of Task date. Linking the same can change the dates but the configuration for that is not easy. I had provided you some links of configuring a task and then managing the schedule date. Try to have a look on the same. It might give you some help.
Tasks are not scheduled as expected in Microsoft Project

A couple of questions:
Does pressing F9 resolve the problem? If so, it sounds as though your calculation was set to manual. Go to Tools > Options, calculation and ensure that your calculation is set to Automatic.
Does Task 2 have an Actual Start date? Tasks will NOT move if they have an actual start date. Add the Actual Start date column to the table. If it has value, delete it.
In the future, you may wish to post directly to the Project forum.
