How long data on CD or DVD will last?
I have heard that the data that we burn on CD or DVD will be lost after a year or so. My problem is how to ensure about the stability of data on the disk drive and after how much time I should check out the disk about the data availability and what is the reason for data lost and if there any solution to stay it as longer as possible.
Re: How long data on CD or DVD will last?
Actually the data is not lost as itself but if you are using it very frequently or it is being used by many persons so it is possible to damage the disk because of not caring while handling it from here to there. If you put it somewhere and it came in contact with water and if you keep it very safe but never use it for a long time then too it is possible to lose the content. Keep it so safe and use it 2 to 3 times in a year so that you can keep your disc as long as possible.
Re: How long data on CD or DVD will last?
When the disc was started to develop somewhere in 90’s, it was announced that data will be last for 100 years. But if your information will be last so long so nobody will purchased the disk second time for the same data to record. After 2003, Disk Company has sold 7150 million CD and 400 million DVD. One more thing need to be discussed here is the quality of disk, if you purchased disc which is very cheap and quality is not good, guaranty for your data is not assured. Good disk is also having technology in it, which make them better than rest of all.
Re: How long data on CD or DVD will last?
If you are purchasing disc of quality, then there is no guarantee for longevity of your data for even 10 years. Because if your CD is exposed directly to sun light and intense heat or rapid changes in temperature and humidity can do dramatic damage. So do keep it safe as much possible by your side and keep checking it.
