Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
Currently I have a Sony Vaio VPC EC netbook. Having observed into the Hard disk drive bay within my computer I observed that it essentially has room for 2 hard disk drives. The merely difficulty is that the interface line that connects the Hard drive toward the mainboard which doesn't have a connection intended for another drive. Is there a component that would allocate you to connect an additional drive within that system anyhow?
Re: Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
Prior to installing another HDD you should make sure to observe if your notebook has the raid matrix allowed. If you have a non-raid component devoid of the raid matrix the motherboard will not at all come across for the next Hard disk drive to hoop. To way in BIOS push [F2] next to the VAIO Splash screen. Unluckily I cannot assurance or support a dissimilar configuration than your unique, though if you desire to get the double HDD data cable.
Re: Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
I have the Sony Vaio-E series laptop 17-inch and you can definitely install a second hard drive in it. It is Sony's designed so that for connecting the hard drive a little extra board is installed, which is connected via ribbon cable. If you configured the Vaio only with a plate, this board is exactly for a single disk and for the second disk is simply no connection is available. According to Vaio-link support is not possible to acquire the port for the second panel as an accessory. At two disks installed, you MUST configure it with two plates compulsorily. .
Re: Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
Your laptop does have a room to install second drive in its bay but I don’t think that it is designed for another HDD except it may be for another SSD. Yes, I have seen this thing in many website. However I am not sure about it. The space which you have there might be for something else like for some other models of HDD other than particular one. Yes, it could be possible that the Sony designer has put some space on the HDD bay so that it can fit any size or whatever model of HDD without any trouble.
Re: Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
I completely agree with what he said. It really looks like the Sony has added more room for the HDD bay for different purpose other than installing another HDD and use it as RAID array. They might have given more room for different purpose like for more AIR flow toward the HDD to keep it cool. Otherwise the bay is specifically designed to hold 2 Drives and in that one is HDD and the other one is SSD. You should check it properly other than going for the modification by yourself.
Re: Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
If the laptop’s or netbook’s motherboard does have an additional connector for HDD or SATA cable then you can really install an additional HDD without any trouble. If the motherboard has only one HDD cable connector then you can do it without the alternative way. The alternative way is to find the SATA cable which has split connection like one for motherboard port and other 2 for two different HDDs. I don’t know whether this is going to be possible thing (it was just my assumption). If it so then you are really lucky to get second HDD on your Sony Vaio netbook.
Re: Second HDD in Sony Vaio VPCEC390x HDD bay
The process of installing a second HDD itself is elementary and not worth an entire article, subject to specific places in the body and initially established or purchased a special adapter for the hard disk. In my case, the place was provided, but the adapter in the kit was not, and found in the sale failed. And I'm armed with a soldering iron took up the mess of conventional SATA cables, bundled in any motherboard, and is sold in all stores for next to nothing.
